In a statement forwarded to Hina, the government said it hoped
military operations in Iraq and the suffering of Iraqi citizens,
Coalition soldiers, journalists and other people would end as soon
as possible.
In the current situation in Iraq, it is of vital importance that
public order and peace are established, human rights are protected
and humanitarian aid is delivered, in which the U.N. should play an
important role, the government stated.
The government expects Iraq to be constituted as soon as possible as
a sovereign and law-based state which would be able to guarantee a
peaceful and dignified life to all of its citizens.
The government recalled that on April 3 it had passed a decision on
sending 20-million-kuna-worth of humanitarian aid to Iraq's war-
affected population, adding that talks were underway to secure its
fast delivery and distribution.
The government reiterated that Croatia was ready to participate in
removing consequences of the war in Iraq and rebuilding the
country's economy.
