The organisation said in a statement it would continue promoting
international human rights standards both on the international and
national scene. This particularly refers to Croatia's lobbying
regarding a session of the U.N. Human Rights Commission.
Other priorities include membership enlargement, fund raising
among citizens, campaigns benefiting the victims of human rights
violations all over the world, and lobbying for the implementation
of the law on community service and adoption of an asylum law.
AIH also stated that it was the only organisation in Croatia which
was not financed from the government budget, as was the case with AI
organisations in other countries as well.
Enumerating its achievements in the past period, the organisation
mentioned long-standing lobbying for the law on community service,
which resulted in its adoption, lobbying for an asylum law and the
International Criminal Court, the launching of a campaign against
the violation of human rights in the Russian Federation,
cooperation with schools in human rights education, and the
establishment of several AI school sections.
Amnesty International is an international, independent, non-
profit and non-political organisation which works towards the
protection and promotion of human rights, for which it received the
Nobel Prize in 1977 and the UN Human Rights Award in 1978.
