The minister said that the number of the unemployed had slightly
dropped from 34,000 in 2001 to 32,500 at the end of 2002 and voiced
confidence that this trend would continue.
He is confident that 1,500 war veterans could be employed this year
and said that his ministry was willing to help the defence ministry,
which plans to lay off about 3,000 people.
In order to stimulate self-employment, the ministry will pay a one -
off deed of encouragement amounting to 20,000 kuna, instead of the
current 15,000 kuna.
