The arrest was confirmed by KFOR spokesman Harry Bannister Grey,
who said that there had been no incidents during the arrest and that
Mehmeti had been taken to the US KFOR base Bondsteel near Urosevac.
The leader of the war veterans' association, Sadik Halitjaha, said
Mehmeti was suspected of being a member of the Albanian National
Army, which he resolutely dismissed.
"That is not true. Mehmeti was one of the most loyal fighters of the
Kosovo Liberation Army, and since the end of the war has worked
exclusively for the association of war veterans in Gnjilane in
Kosovo," Halitjaha said.
