ZAGREB, April 3 (Hina) - In the first two months of this year Croatia's exports amounted to US$943 million while import amounted to almost twice as much -- US$1.8 billion, the Central Bureau of Statistics reported on Thursday.

Croatia's exports amounted to US$943 million while import amounted
to almost twice as much -- US$1.8 billion, the Central Bureau of

According to Bureau's temporary data, Croatia's foreign trade
deficit was only slightly lower than the overall imports -- $847
million.
In relation to the same period the preceding year, Croatia's
exports in the first two month of 2003 increased by 49.1 percent,
while import rose by 26.3 percent.
Croatia's best foreign trade partners are still EU countries. Main
partners are Italy (exports - $212.6 million, imports - $309.3
million) and Germany (exports - $117 million, imports $208.7)
In this year's first twos month Croatia exported $105.3 million in
goods to CEFTA member countries which is an increase of 34.8
percent, while imports from these countries amounted to $268.3
million or 30.1 percent more than in the same period the year
before.
Croatia's trade surplus continues to increase particularly in
trade with Bosnia (exports rose by 34.7 percent to $108.4 million,
while imports increased by 2.2 percent to $21 million) and Serbia
and Montenegro (exports rose 13.5 percent to 22 million and imports
by 23.7 percent to $7 million).
