"I believe that currently Croatia cannot afford to make the army
fully professional. Reserve military and the military service are
by far cheaper than a professional army," the former Armed Forces
chief-of-staff said in the interview.
He added that when conditions allow, he would be the first to
advocate the professionalisation of the army and abandoning
conscription.
Speaking about the war in Iraq, Stipetic said that without a UN
mandate, the unilateral decision to intervene could not be
justified.
