ZAGREB, March 27 (Hina) - The government on Thursday endorsed business plans for this year as submitted by Croatian Telecom (HT), Croatian Post, Vjesnik, Narodne novine, Astra International, and Croatian Shipbuilding - Jadranbrod. #L# Said companies, with the exception of HT, plan to generate 30 million kuna (EUR3.9 mln) in total profits and invest 328 million kuna (EUR42.6 mln) this year. Over the past three years Croatian public companies have been operating successfully and previously "successful" losers have become successful profit generators, said Prime Minister Ivica Racan. Deputy PM Slavko Linic said that privatisation could begin in some public companies which had been consolidated. According to data outlined today, HT last year generated 7.4 billion kuna (EUR961 mln) in revenue, eight percent up from 2001. Profits reached a record 1.8 billion kuna (EUR233.8 mln). This year the company plans to invest 1.3 billion kuna (EUR168.8 mln). The only loss-maker among the six aforementioned companies is Vjesnik, the media company, which recorded 41.2 million kuna (EUR5.4 mln) in losses last year. The government bound the Vjesnik managing and supervisory boards to draw up a profitability study for further investing in rotation, a study to reposition Vjesnik daily on the market, and plans to reduce operational costs and pay overdue liabilities.
