"Roads and bridges must be serviceable. If someone fought for the
Croatian state, they also fought for its judiciary, police, and
other institutions," said Mesic after visiting two companies
operating at Zagreb's Jankomir free zone.
Mesic was asked to comment on a statement Drazen Pavlovic,
president of the Sinj branch of the HVIDR-a association of disabled
war veterans, made yesterday to the effect that he had "a message
from the Cetina region for Messrs Mesic, Racan, Manolic and others -
may they join comrade Djindjic for breakfast as soon as possible
because this is the only way to save the Croatian state for which we
fought".
Asked if he saw it as a threat, Mesic said, "No. I realised they want
me to have that breakfast".
"I don't feel like having breakfast with Djindjic," he said, adding
this proved that the Mafia collaborated regardless of citizenship
or nationality.
The extreme, radical political current collaborates with similar
ones in surrounding states, he said, adding it had been extremists
like those, from Croatia and Serbia, who had been mad at him when he
testified against former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic in
The Hague.
