Racan said during today's question time in parliament. #L#
Branko Tusek of the Social Democrats (SDP) asked whether differing
views of the war in Iraq had put a strain on relations between
Croatia and the US. Racan responded that during talks in Washington
and Zagreb, Croatian and American representatives had agreed that
the two countries had a high degree of agreement and cooperation,
and certain differences in views should not annul or bring the
friendly relations into question.
"We have entered a phase in which assessments which could cast doubt
on the friendly relations between the two countries," he said.
Racan said that because of the military action in Iraq, differing
views arose in relations with the US, even reactions to and
estimates of the government's stances about the necessity of a
political solution to the Iraqi crisis. He reiterated that he
believed that such differences would not reflect on the friendly
relations.
"Croatia is interested in continuing friendly relations with the
United States, it is a member of the anti-terrorist coalition and we
wish to continue with that," Racan said.
