LJUBLJANA, March 24 (Hina) - The president of the European Parliament, Pat Cox, on Sunday evening welcomed the strong support Slovene voters gave for their country's membership in the European Union and NATO at yesterday's
referendums, adding the results could serve as a positive example for all countries in the region.

Speaking for the national television in Ljubljana's Europe Centre,
Cox said the Slovenes' positive response to EU membership had
surprised even those who knew how enthusiastic they were about the
EU.
The Slovene parliament president, Borut Pahor, said in an interview
with the national television he was satisfied and congratulated all
citizens on their decision.
"This is not only a wise decision, but considering the current
international situation, a very brave one. I believe it will pay in
the future," he added.
