Eight bodies exhumed on Tuesday from the Cetingrad cemetery are
more than likely the remains of Fikret Abdic's military forces and
not Croats killed during the Serb occupation as first believed.
Karlovac County Prosecutor Ljubica Fiskus-Sumonja said that
according to information she had, the eight bodies unearthed on
Tuesday from a mass grave in Cetingrad were transferred to the
Forensic Institute in Zagreb for identification and that they were
not Croats killed during the Serb occupation as was first assumed by
Karlovac police. It appears though that the bodies were those of
followers of Abdic's autonomous region of Western Bosnia who were
killed in local Muslim conflicts.
Fiskus-Sumonja spoke with Bosnian citizens at the site of the
exhumation who told her that they believed that the bodies exhumed
were of their relatives, and this could help in the identification
process.
In an exhumation conducted on Wednesday in the Orthodox cemetery in
Mali Kozinci in the Barilovic municipality, the remains of two
bodies were found and one in Vojnic.
The Office for Detained and Missing Persons reported that nine mass
grave sites had been found in the Karlovac region since 1995 with
163 bodies being exhumed of whom 151 have been identified. There are
still 39 persons missing from the area.
