LJUBLJANA, March 20 (Hina) - Slovenian President Janez Drnovsek said at a press conference on Thursday that he regretted the US action in Iraq adding that there differences existed in the international community regarding the
legitimacy of that action even though no-one doubts that Saddam Hussein's regime should be stopped and disarmed.

Should the action last longer and result in many civilian victims or
destabilise a wider region and strengthen terrorism, the world
public will more than likely lean towards the attitudes of France,
Germany and Russia and will stand in opposition to the U.S. and
Great Britain, Slovenia's President said.
Drnovsek assessed that the world powers that oppose the US action
fear that the doctrine of preventative war could in future be
promoted as a model of unilateral actions.
