The DS main committee, which held a session on Sunday, proposed
another vice president of the party, Boris Tadic, for the defence
minister in the future council of ministers of the new union of
Serbia and Montenegro. The whip of the DOS coalition's bench in the
Serbian assembly, Cedomir Jovanovic, is a candidate for the post of
vice premier in Serbia's government.
Zoran Zivkovic, a former Yugoslav interior minister, will be the DS
acting president until the next convention of this party, which is
to be organised after general elections next year.
Addressing the main committee, Cedomir Jovanovic said that so far
in the investigation into last Wednesday's assassination of
Premier Djindjic, more than "200 criminals with records who have
been destroying the country" had been nabbed, which he ascribed to
the introduction of a state of emergency which would remain in force
as long as "Serbia is not cleaned with the iron broom which Zoran
Djindjic held."
Jovanovic announced a session of the Serbian assembly for Tuesday
when the premier-designate should be appointed.
