"It is time for open talks in the coalition and an agreement on the
minimum of the programme which should be implemented before the
elections," Rados said at a session of the party council.
The party will continue advocating the continuation of reforms that
are necessary for Croatia to join the European Union, especially
reforms of the defence and judiciary, the adoption of a labour act
and the continuation of the privatisation process, he said.
Criticising relations within the coalition, Rados said that "a
lenient government, with opposition from within the very
authorities, cannot yield good results".
The scandal with the sale of the Suncani Hvar hotel company could
have been avoided, but was not due to attempts to score points on the
local political scene and weaken the coalition, he said.
Rados also believes that the purpose of a proposal to annul a
Croatian-Slovene agreement on the Krsko nuclear power plant was to
destabilise the government under the pretext of protection of
national interests.
These affairs have overshadowed two positive events - the country's
application for membership in the European Union and its decision
not to participate in a war against Iraq without the consent of the
U.N. Security Council, he said.
A party member and Vice-Premier, Goran Granic, said that there was
too much speculation and currying of favours in the coalition, and
that the government must not be held hostage by any party.
