"There is obviously not going to be a joint electoral bill," Tomcic
told reporters.
A similar assessment was given by Croatian Premier Ivica Racan on
Croatian Radio. "As matters stand at the moment, it seems that each
party will go on its own with regard to the electoral bill," Racan
said.
Both Tomcic and Racan agreed that a final assessment on the
electoral bill would be given by MPs who are to debate on four
electoral bills -- those of the HSS, the Social Democratic Party,
the Democratic Centre, and the one submitted by the Istrian
Democratic Alliance and Liberal Party.
Racan announced it was not excluded that the government may present
a fifth version -- namely the technically adjusted version of the
Electoral Law, dating 1999 along with the Constitutional Law on
Minority Rights.
The HSS is prepared to discuss the matter but it will not make any
major compromises, Tomcic said commenting on the electoral
legislation.
