ZAGREB, Feb 14 (Hina) - Croatia's ruling coalition has no strength
left to complete its term, the need for rows and conflicts is bigger
than mutual understanding, and the coalition has to agree on the
termination of its term and holding a parliamentary ballot in
October, the president of the party of liberal democrats, Libra,
said on Friday. #L#
The coalition has to agree about the minimum of reforms and projects
it should complete, dissolve parliament in September, and call new
elections in October, Jozo Rados told a news conference.
The coalition should "complete work on motorway construction
programmes, make a good preparation of the Holy Father's visit,
successfully wrap up the tourist season, and get a positive answer
from the European Union on our membership application".
Rados said that if the ruling five parties failed to agree about
this, elections should be called even sooner. It would be best if
parliament by itself passed a decision on dissolving and holding a
ballot in October, he said.
Responding to a journalist, Rados said Libra, a member of the ruling
coalition, would run independently in the next polls but that it
would discuss the possibility of forming a post-election coalition
with the similar Croatian People's Party, the Liberal Party, and
the Istrian Democratic Assembly.
At today's news conference, Libra endorsed the stance the
government expressed yesterday concerning the Iraqi crisis which
"must be overcome peacefully and within the U.N.".
The party said it also supported the government's decision ordering
doctors on strike to go back to work and the performance of Health
Minister Andro Vlahusic.
