ZAGREB, March 10 (Hina) - The Croatian government on Monday made
necessary decisions from the scope of its authorities in connection
to the sale of the Sisak Ironworks to Russia's Mechel company. The
decisions will be forwarded later in the day, after which the sales
contract comes into force, said Economy Minister Ljubo Jurcic. #L#
Ministers agreed on the phone to allow the Croatian Privatisation
Fund to issue the necessary documents to Mechel and that all taxes
pertaining to the sale and purchase of the ironworks be calculated
into the sales price, i.e. one kuna.
The decisions will be delivered to Mechel and the ironworks'
receiver, after which the contract takes effect, Jurcic told
reporters.
Asked about the salaries for the ironworks' workers for March,
Jurcic said the government had fulfilled its tasks and would pay
wages for January and February.
Relating to an announcement by the Russian partner that it would sue
Jurcic for his statements about a "blitzkrieg", Jurcic explained
that it was a well-known term from war and conflicts theory and
strategy. He apologised for using it if the Russian party
understood it in a negative context.
He said that according to its conduct, the Russian side had shown
that it wanted the ironworks swiftly. Mechel made the best offer and
the government's goal was to keep the offer, but in compliance with
Croatian laws, he said.
