He expressed hope that agreement could be reached with the Russian
partner (Machel) after all. Doors remain open for this agreement,
Racan told a news conference in the government's building on
Wendnesday.
He reiterated that the government was not satisfied with the signed
agreement on the sale of Sisak Ironworks to Russia's Machel.
If, by the signed agreement, the government is expected to take
certain actions, make guarantees and remove a mortgage, then it
also has the right to require some things as a minimum, the premier
said.
He said the government would insist on a new contract which will
respect the legal order and Croatia's sovereignty.
The government wants the maximum level of guarantees for the
workers and it will demand of the Russian partner to ensure full
employment for five years, or in contrary to ensure founds in the
amount to six monthly wages, Racan said and added that those trying
to turn the workers against the government "know what they are
doing".
He announced that the government would discuss the privatisation of
the iron plant at its session on Thursday. The government will also
voice its opinion on a doctors' strike after a session of the chief
strike committee of the Croatian Doctors' Union.
