ZAGREB, Feb 27 (Hina) - At a regular meeting of Council of Europe ambassadors held on Wednesday, Croatia's permanent representative Neven Madey informed CoE member-countries of Croatia's application for candidacy for full membership
in the European Union which Premier Ivica Racan submitted in Athens on February 21, the Croatian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.
ZAGREB, Feb 27 (Hina) - At a regular meeting of Council of Europe
ambassadors held on Wednesday, Croatia's permanent representative
Neven Madey informed CoE member-countries of Croatia's application
for candidacy for full membership in the European Union which
Premier Ivica Racan submitted in Athens on February 21, the
Croatian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday. #L#
Greek Ambassador Athanassios Theodoracopoulos, whose country is
currently presiding the EU, positively assessed Croatia's
application.
The Greek presidency, Theodoracopoulos said, expressed
satisfaction with the determination Croatia's political
leadership introduced vital institutional and economic reforms
which will help Croatia achieve acquis communautaire and take on
the responsibilities that EU membership entails.
He stressed Croatia would not be on its own on its road but that it
could expect appropriate assistance from the EU, as already
announced by the vice president of the European Commission, Romano
Prodi.
