ZAGREB/VALLETTA, Feb 14 (Hina) - Malta gives full support to Croatia's decision to submit an official application for full EU membership later this month, the Croatian European Integration Ministry said in a statement in which it
reported about the visit of Minister Neven Mimica to that country.

Mimica, who was on a visit to Malta from Wednesday to Friday, held
talks with President Guido de Marco, Premier Edward Fenech Adami,
Foreign Minister Joseph Borg and some opposition leaders,
notifying them that Croatia's Premier Ivica Racan would officially
hand over the Croatian candidacy to his Greek counterpart Costas
Simitis in Athens on 21 February.
The Croatian minister emphasised that his hosts in Valletta had
expressed support to the Croatian candidacy and offered assistance
in technical aspects concerning issues of European integration
processes and campaigns aimed at informing the public about the
integration processes. Malta is to enter the European Union in
2004.
Mimica also conveyed President Stjepan Mesic's invitation to his
Maltese counterpart to visit Zagreb, which President de Marco
accepted.
According to the statement, in Malta the Croatian official took
part in the work of the international "Wilton Park" conference on
the enlargement of the Union and the consequences of its expansion
in the south of Europe.
