Members of the delegation expressed hope that the Council of
Europe, as the oldest European association, will support Croatia's
candidacy for joining the EU.
In keeping with provisions of the Council of Europe's Convention on
the transfer of detained persons which was signed by both Croatia
and the U.S., the delegation expressed Croatia's expectation that
the U.S. government would undertake measures to have Zvonko
Busic returned to Croatia. Busic has been in a U.S. prison since
1976.
Schieder said that the Council of Europe would support these
requests by Croatia.
The Croatian delegation, headed by Mirjana Feric-Vac, consisted of
Zdravka Busic and Ivo Skrabalo as well as Croatia's representatives
to the Council of Europe, Neven Madey.
