VALBANDON/PULA, Feb 23 (Hina) - The "Community Police" project will

working hours on their own, it was said at a meeting of police
chiefs, held in Valbandon over the weekend. #L#
Police officers who have joined the programme and currently work in
shifts will be able to determine their work time on their own.
This is one of many advantages of the new model of police work, about
which reporters attending the meeting were informed by Vladimir
Faber and Irena Cajner-Mraovic, who work on the project.
The experimental implementation of the project starts already on
Monday, in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County.
Five counties participate in the experimental testing of the
project.
Community police officers will be selected by April 15, after which
they will undergo a three-week training programme. By September 15
the model should be tested on the ground.
In the meantime, the parliament should adopt changes to the Law on
Police to create legal conditions for implementing the project
throughout the country within a year.
One of the requirements for officers applying for community police
is five years of service. Around 25% of regular police should
transfer to the new service.
