The direct motivation for the action was the recent murder of two
Bulgarian women and one Moldovian in a night bar near Gostivar.
During the clamp-down, Macedonian police nabbed one of the most
notorious slavers in south-east Europe and at least 40 women,
illegally found in the country, were extradited.
They were all found in night clubs and come from Southeast European
countries.
The Skopje daily "Dnevnik" reports about 3,000 girls have been
forced to prostitution in night clubs around the country. The
largest number of victims are from Romania, Moldova and Bulgaria
however there are also women from Russia, Ukraine, Serbia &
Montenegro, Albania and Croatia.
