"We hope that this is a great step towards a desirable unified
stance regarding the Iraqi crisis and its solution. Croatia,
regardless of how small it is, wishes to contribute to this as much
as it can," Racan said at the start of today's government session.
At an extraordinary summit held in Brussels on Monday, the EU heads
of state and government adopted a declaration under which Iraq must
take the last chance and entirely and immediately cooperate with UN
arms inspectors.
The EU decided that arms inspections cannot continue indefinitely
and that force could be used exclusively as the last option. The
declaration also says that the war is not unavoidable and that the
Iraqi regime alone would be responsible for the consequences should
it continue to ignore the will of the international community.
Racan reminded that Croatia, after the European Council's session,
had sent a note to Greece's presidency over the EU, informing it of
its support.
