ZAGREB, Feb 10 (Hina) - Croatian Prime Minister Ivica Racan said
Monday one should not dramatise the latest situation which
developed between him and parliamentary president Zlatko Tomcic
regarding the sale of Suncani Hvar hotel company. #L#
"One should not dramatise this situation, that is not how I
interpret Tomcic's statements," said Racan, commenting on Tomcic's
recent statement that he would "request an investigation by
independent experts into the Suncani Hvar case" and that "one
cannot come clean out of filth".
"I will not speak harshly, everybody has their own style," Racan
told Croatian Radio, recalling that he had personally advocated
making the decision on the sale of the company conditional upon
additional clarifications.
"There are differences in how we classified the errors, but I
disagree with those who claim that intention and filth stood behind
(the government decision)," said Racan.
Certain mistakes were made but they were sanctioned by dismissing
the management board of the Croatian Privatisation Fund, he said.
Thinking that these errors speak about more grave issues is another
matter, but such claims must be substantiated. It is not good being
both the prosecutor and judge, Racan said.
He expressed hope that the Suncani Hvar affair was settling down,
and stressed that he saw no reason for the entire story to be
repeated.
Racan does not oppose a parliamentary discussion about the issue,
but believes that MPs could not debate only one case without the
entire privatisation process being talked about.
If there is will to discuss the issue in parliament, the debate will
take place, said Racan.
