The event pooled 1,200 exhibitors from 65 countries, including
Croatia, whose pavilion attracted numerous visitors since German
tour-operators named Croatia the winner of the 2002 season on the
Mediterranean.
Addressing a news conference, Micic expressed satisfaction with
last year's 14% increase in the number of German arrivals. He said
that this year's investments in tourist camps totalled some 15
million euros and that the state was stepping up its support for
tourism.
Until the start of the tourist season, 125 Croatian hotels will win
more stars and some 130 kilometres of new highways will be built, he
said.
Present at the news conference were some 40 foreign reporters, who
also inquired about the process of privatisation of tourist
companies and new types of tourist offer. Micic said that Croatia's
goal was not privatisation at any cost but finding good partners and
announced new investments in congress, adventure, sports and
religious tourism.
