IDF OPPOSES JAKOVCIC'S BUSINESS IN MILITARY INDUSTRY

PULA, Feb 12 (Hina) - Istrian Democratic Forum (IDF) leaders told the press in Pula on Wednesday that they were concerned with "secret agreements which the Istrian prefect is concluding around the world", reacting to Monday's statement by Prefect Ivan Jakovcic that a high-tech project as part of the airforce industry had been agreed on in Israel. "Bringing in military industry and arms is incompatible with the development of tourism, especially now that military facilities in Pula are trying to be placed into civilian function," IDF Presidency member Damir Radnic said. At Monday's news conference, Jakovcic expressed satisfaction with his last week's visit to Israel where, he said, he "agreed on a high- tech project with local business partners" as part of the airforce industry at the Pula airport. He did not wish to disclose to reporters the details about the project, citing commitment to discretion, since the technology and competition was very sophisticated. He said that cooperation with Israeli business people, who are visiting Istria with Croatian Defence Ministry representatives, was intense. (hina) lml sb
