CAKOVEC, Feb 10 (Hina) - The Cakovec Municipal Court panel of judges on Monday passed a judgement to 13 defendants, dubbed the "Medjimurje criminal organisation", for association to smuggle illegal aliens over the state border for
personal gain. The first defendant, Dragutin Srnec, has been sentenced to two years and seven months in prison. The court also ordered confiscation of his illegally obtained property which has been estimated at 226,000 German marks.

According to the verdict, Srnec and 12 of his accomplices in 2000
and the first three months of 2001 illegally transferred 378
foreign citizens from Croatia into Slovenia, earning 378,000
German marks.
