Strugar said the document represented a good foundation for a
debate on the future of Croatia's school system and a good guideline
in looking for a solution.
Parliament's committee on science and culture, however, turned the
project down, said its chairman Hrvoje Kraljevic.
He said the committee mostly objected to the reorganisation of the
education system as proposed, and regulations enabling elementary
school teachers to teach specific subjects.
Kraljevic also said the draft reform had been wrongly laid down and
had to be rejected.
He advocated holding a debate on the draft reform of the education
system, and stressed Croatian schools needed to make content-
related changes, improve classes, provide better equipment, and
introduce state high-school diplomas.
