ZAGREB, Jan 5 (Hina) - The Croatian Journalists' Association (HND)
branch at Croatian Radio-Television (HRT) believes that Wednesday
night's television programme "U krupnom planu", focusing on a new
law on HRT, is belated because a public debate on the law has been
completed. #L#
"The editor-in-chief's decision to try to sway the opinion of the
public and parliamentary deputies two days before the
parliamentary debate and possible adoption of the new law on HRT
bears witness to the failure to comprehend the purpose of and reason
for the existence of public television in democratic world," the
branch's executive committee said in a statement.
The branch reminds that two months ago it proposed broadcasting a
programme on the law on HRT, but the editor-in-chief refused it.
The branch believes that tonight's programme is "an example of
scandalous manipulation and politicising of HRT by the editor-in-
chief and people who elected her to the post".
The parliament will tomorrow discuss the final bill on HRT in the
second reading.
