ZAGREB, Feb 1 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic on Saturday
refuted allegations that Josip Lucic, the military chief-of-staff,
was responsible for organising the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina in
the early 1990s. #L#
Mesic was commenting on claims in a weekly magazine which said that
Lucic, who was recently appointed chief-of-staff, had participated
in the Bosnian war as organiser and executor.
"Soldiers carry out orders and not a policy so a soldier cannot be
responsible for (the policy) in Bosnia and Herzegovina," the
president told journalists in Zagreb's Tamaris library during a
cancer prevention book sale.
Mesic also commented on the findings of a privatisation audit,
presented in parliament yesterday, which showed that only 143
audited companies had not committed a violation or a crime.
The whole thing should have been resolved sooner so that the
Croatian public could be spared the burden and so that facts could
be established, Mesic said, adding that experts should be engaged
for audits to expedite the solving of the problem.
