ZAGREB, Jan 29 (Hina) - Parliamentary benches of the ruling coalition on Wednesday supported a government draft strategy for the development of science in Croatia in the 21st century. All opposition parties but the Democratic Centre
opposed the strategy.

coalition on Wednesday supported a government draft strategy for
the development of science in Croatia in the 21st century. All
opposition parties but the Democratic Centre opposed the strategy.

Ivo Slaus of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) supported the draft
strategy and stressed that people and their knowledge were the only
resource which each country had and which was never in principle
exploited to the maximum.
On behalf of the Croatian Democratic Union, Ivica Kostovic said
that the strategy was incomplete and that it was not clear what was
the government's real development strategy for in the 21st century.
For him it was questionable was how the government would be able to
earmark 1.6 percent of the Gross Domestic Product for science by
2006.
