The agreement, which regulates the hand- and take-over of illegal
residents, is the last such document which Croatia must sign under
its Stabilisation and Association Agreement with the EU, Lucin
said. The agreement, which will help liberalise the visa regime
between the two countries, is particularly important because of an
increase in the number of illegal immigrants from Albania, the
minister added.
Before the signing of the document, the two ministers discussed the
fight against organised crime, the need for a closer cooperation
between their ministries and police forces as well as border
control.
The Albanian minister said his country did have problems with drug
and people trafficking but added that Albania was only a transition
point. The Albanian police have almost completely eradicated the
problem of drug trafficking on the sea, he said.
