ZAGREB/PARIS, Jan 16 (Hina) - The French National Assembly ratified
the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) between Croatia
and the European Union on Thursday. #L#
MPs unanimously confirmed the agreement.
Croatian Prime Minister Ivica Racan said at the beginning of a
government sitting on Thursday that information that the agreement
had been ratified had arrived from Paris.
The ratification is yet to be confirmed by the upper house of the
French parliament, the Senate, which is expected in the near
future.
Croatia signed the SAA in October 2001 and the agreement will become
effective after being ratified by parliaments of all EU member-
countries, the Croatian and the European parliaments, which have
already done so.
The agreement has so far been ratified by Germany, Denmark,
Ireland, Austria and Spain. Greek Foreign Minister Georgios
Papandreou announced earlier this week his country would ratify the
agreement by mid-2003.
