A member of parliament, Ante Beljo, who is a representative of the
Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), asked about the whereabouts of
that documentation and accused the incumbent government of trying
to turn Croatia into the first country to be without a state secret.
He also asserted that the government "has surrendered the Croatian
sovereignty to the ICTY (UN war crimes tribunal)" by forwarding the
documentation in question to the ICTY prosecution.
Granic responded to Beljo that the government was authorised to
declassify documents, particularly for justified reason such as
the ICTY prosecution's request for some documents because of
investigations.
"It is not legally disputable that the government should make such
documents available to the ICTY prosecution for investigations,"
Granic told the Sabor.
The government official said that a part of the documentation had
been taken over by Vladimir Seks who at the time had been the acting
president of the HDZ, and Tudjman's son Miroslav, while a part
remained in the President's Office.
At the beginning of its session on Wednesday, the parliament
introduced a novelty in its work. Upon the completion of today's
question time, it was read out what the government failed to do with
regard to its obligation to MPs in the past period. The government
was again called to respond to questions by MPs Ivo Loncar,
independent deputy, Marijana Petir of the Peasant Party (HSS) and
Ljubo Cesic Rojs (HDZ) in the coming seven days.
