Croatian Vice-Premier Goran Granic has announced he would convene a
session of the Economic and Social Council for Wednesday, which
will discuss unions' criticism.
Five union federations are asking of the government to withdraw
from procedure a bill on labour by January 24 at the latest,
otherwise, they would organise protest rallies, including a
general strike.
The unions are opposing the proposed decrease of severance pays,
curbing dismissal notification periods, equalising permanent and
temporary employment, and increasing the number of employees in
small companies (who can be dismissed more easily).
