SISAK, Jan 8 (Hina) - The Croatian Demining Centre (HCR) considers
justified the demand by the union of demining employees to draw up a
bill on humanitarian demining and have it forwarded into
parliamentary procedure, HCR head Oto Jungwirth said on Wednesday.

He said that it was necessary to equate the status and conditions of
Croatian and foreign mine-cleaning activists, with the condition
that foreigners cannot be employed in demining funded by domestic
sources but only from foreign donations or loans.
Jungwirth said preparations were drawing to a close to engage
Russian mine-clearing activists in line with a settlement of
Russia's clearing debt to Croatia in the amount of US$32 million.
He added that demining this year should settle about US$5 million of
that debt and would involve clearing mines in Sisak-Moslavina, and
most likely, Karlovac county.
