This is the first bilateral meeting between Racan and the recently
appointed Slovene prime minister who succeeded Janez Drnovsek at
the end of 2002. The agenda of the Racan-Rop meeting includes open
issues such as the demarcation of the border line, Slovenia's plans
to ratify the Krsko power plant agreement and the Ljubljanska
Bank's debt to depositors from Croatia.
According to Slovene political commentators, Rop is expected to
build "a new economic and political strategy towards Croatia".
After their bilateral meeting, Racan and Rop will join the premiers
of Italy and Hungary, Silvio Berlusconi and Peter Medgyessyi
respectively, for a meeting of the heads of government of the
quadrilateral group.
