Tomcic congratulated Lithuania on its successful completion of
negotiations with the EU and the invitation to join NATO. He
stressed Croatia intended to send an official bid for membership in
the EU within a month at the latest, the parliament said in a press
release.
Valionis expressed his country's readiness to exchange experience
in drawing closer to Euro-Atlantic associations, and provide
assistance to Croatia in its efforts in this context.
The two agreed that relations between the two countries were on an
ascending line, but with economic cooperation which was below the
countries' actual potential and which should be intensified.
Valionis stressed the legal framework for cooperation in numerous
areas needed to be fortified: in tourism, economy, the fight
against terrorism, in culture and science.
Valionis handed Tomcic a letter by the president of the Lithuanian
parliament, Arturas Paulauskas, inviting him to a meeting of the
Vilnius-10 countries which will take place in Vilnius in May.
Participants will discus modalities of future cooperation.
The V-10 Group is comprised of countries of eastern and south-
eastern Europe, aspirants for membership in NATO. Seven of ten
members of the group have been officially invited to join the
alliance. Croatia, Macedonia and Albania have not been invited
yet.
