ZAGREB, Jan 16 (Hina) - Croatia's President and Armed Forces Supreme Commander Stjepan Mesic on Thursday appointed Lt. Gen. Josip Lucic the new military chief-of-staff, at the government's proposal and after getting the opinion of
parliament's committee on internal affairs and national security.

Also today Mesic appointed Major General Slavko Baric deputy
military chief-of-staff, with the consent of Defence Minister
Zeljka Antunovic, the President's Office said in a statement.
The decisions on the appointments are effective with the day of
passing, the statement added.
Lucic was born in 1957 in Posavski Podgajci near Zupanja in the
Slavonia region, has a master's degree in physical education, and
joined the Croatian Armed Forces on 1 November 1990.
During the 1990s Homeland War he commanded the First Guard Brigade
"Tigers" and the Osijek military district, he headed the military
personnel administration, held the offices of assistant defence
minister and chief defence inspector, was the commander of the
Petar Zrinski military academy, and in October 2000 was appointed
deputy military chief-of-staff.
