ZAGREB, Jan 2 (Hina) - Croatia's President and Armed Forces' Supreme Commander Stjepan Mesic on Thursday met Lieutenant General Josip Lucic, who as Deputy Armed Forces' Chief-of-Staff took over the office of Armed Forces'
Chief-of-Staff from General Petar Stipetic on December 31, 2002, the President's Office said in a statement.

Supreme Commander Stjepan Mesic on Thursday met Lieutenant General
Josip Lucic, who as Deputy Armed Forces' Chief-of-Staff took over
the office of Armed Forces' Chief-of-Staff from General Petar
Stipetic on December 31, 2002, the President's Office said in a

General Lucic informed Mesic about the army's combat readiness,
stressing that it was not jeopardised in any of none of the armed
forces' segments.
As regards recent cessation of active military service of a group of
the highest-ranking commanders and officers of the Armed Forces,
their duties have been taken over by their deputies or other high-
ranking officers who were next in the military hierarchy. All other
activities in the Armed Forces planned for this time of year are
proceeding as scheduled, reads the statement.
General Lucic also informed the President about activities aimed at
strengthening the combat readiness of the Armed Forces, which are
to be carried out in the first months of 2003, particularly in the
context of the reorganisation of the army.
The meeting was also attended by the President's advisor on defence
and military issues, Imra Agotic, and the head of the President's
military cabinet, Major General Kresimir Kaspar.
