Commander Stjepan Mesic on Thursday met Lieutenant General Josip Lucic, who as Deputy Armed Forces' Chief-of-Staff took over the office of Armed Forces' Chief-of-Staff from General Petar Stipetic on December 31, 2002, the President's Office said in a statement. General Lucic informed Mesic about the army's combat readiness, stressing that it was not jeopardised in any of the armed forces' segments. As regards recent cessation of active military service of a group of the highest-ranking commanders and officers of the Armed Forces, their duties have been taken over by their deputies or other high-ranking officers who were next in the military hierarchy.
