SPLIT, Jan 8 (Hina) - The leader of the Croatian Teachers' Union,
Dalimir Kuba, told reporters in Split on Wednesday the government
was to be blamed for a five-day strike in primary schools, to take
place next week, because it refused to increase the salaries of all
employees in primary schools. #L#
The union claims that the funds the government has allocated for
education this year cover only an increase of some six percent on
average of teachers' gross salaries and demands a 10-percent
increase, to include the salaries of not only teachers but also of
non-teaching staff. The union requests that along with the 130
million kuna of allocated funds, the government should ensure
another 80 million kuna for primary education.
The strike in primary schools should be held between 13 and 17
January.
Kuba said the government would have to pay the teachers the time
spent on strike.
