ZAGREB, Dec 27 (Hina) - The newly-appointed commander of the Croatian Army, Colonel General Marijan Marekovic, was born on October 6, 1959, in Sesvete near Zagreb. He joined the Croatian Armed Forces, i.e. the Interior Ministry units,
on November 1, 1990.

Croatian Army, Colonel General Marijan Marekovic, was born on
October 6, 1959, in Sesvete near Zagreb. He joined the Croatian
Armed Forces, i.e. the Interior Ministry units, on November 1,

He was deputy commander of the First Guard Brigade "Tigers" until
December 30, 1991, when he became commander of the unit. He stayed
at the post until July 24, 1994, when he was appointed assistant for
the Ground Forces. On August 28, 1995 he was appointed commander of
the Zagreb Military District, later renamed into the First Military
District.
He was appointed assistant defence minister for human resources on
October 13, 1999.
Marekovic is a graduate crime-investigation expert. He completed
the command school "Blago Zadro" and the "Ban Josip Jelacic" war
school, which is the highest degree of education in the Croatian
army.
