"In light of the fact that universal franchise is a right stipulated by the constitution for all citizens of the Republic of Croatia, GONG has requested of the HUP and DIP to openly appeal to employers asking them to ensure such working hours on the election days that employees will be able to exercise their voting rights," reads a press release, issued by GONG on Sunday.
GONG reports that over recent days it has received many complaints of citizens who have said that they will have to work all the day on 2 January when the presidential election are to be held. Those workers fear that employees will not show understanding for their wish to go to the polls and cast their ballots.
GONG adds that in compliance with its mission to monitor the course of elections, it will inform the public about any possible complaint of citizens who report that their employers deny them their voting rights.
