ZAGREB, Dec 24 (Hina) - The youngest candidate for the new Croatian president, Miroslav Rajh, who is the Croatian Youth Party (HSM) leader, said on Friday that one of main gaols of his political engagement was to eradicate corruption and crime in the country.

"We would like to show that young people are serious," Rajh said at a news conference in Zagreb.

"We have enough of mistakes which our current leaders have made and it's time they went," Rajh said.

He went on to say that it was not only legal but also moral obligation of all presidential candidates to make public figures about spending on their campaigns. He criticised Jadranka Kosor of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) for not knowing how much she had so far spent in the presidential race. "If she does know that, how can she lead the country," Rajh added.

He also criticised an independent candidate, Boris Miksic, who returned to Croatia from the USA where he was a businessman. for paying only 15 kuna per hour to students who were engaged in his campaign.

The HSM Secretary-General, Mario Lozic, told the conference that 7,000 kuna had been ensured fo Rajh's campaign. So far, 4,636.72 kuna have been spent mostly on administrative costs such as application forms and materials for collecting signatures, Lozic said.

The funds were collected from the party's membership fees with one party member donating 2,000 kuna and Rajh giving his own 1,000 kuna, Lozic explained.

Two central rallies of the HSM are scheduled for 29 December in St Marc's Square and Jelacic Square in Zagreb.
