Margetic, aged 30, told the police that he had been approached by two unknown men outside his apartment building in Zagreb on Friday evening and ordered to get into their red Ford Escort car. He was taken to a house in Karlovac, 50 kilometres southwest of Zagreb, where there were several other men who did not identify themselves. Margetic was unlawfully detained in the house for two days and questioned about his work in the weekly.
Margetic said that he had not been ill-treated or threatened by the kidnappers. He was released in Zagreb's southwestern suburb of Lucko early Sunday morning. At around 1300 hours on Sunday, Margetic visited a police station in Zagreb where he pressed charges against unidentified perpetrators for unlawful deprivation of liberty.
The police said an investigation was under way with a view to identifying the perpetrators.
