ZAGREB, Dec 18 (Hina) - The Interior Ministry has denied a media report that the editor-in-chief of the political weekly "Novo hrvatsko slovo", Domagoj Margetic, was arrested on Friday evening, saying that no action has been taken against him.

The police summoned Margetic for an interview about three weeks ago following an order by the Office of the Public Prosecutor, which in turn was prompted by a request from the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague that the weekly stop publishing statements and testimonies of protected witnesses, Interior Ministry spokesman Zlatko Mehun told Hina on Saturday.

The spokesman said that Margetic had failed to respond to the summons, but that the police had taken no action against him since no such order came from the Public Prosecutor.

"Novo hrvatsko slovo" said in a press release on Saturday that Margetic had been arrested on Friday evening and taken to an unknown location. The weekly said that its editor-in-chief had been under constant police surveillance over the past few days, and demanded that the relevant authorities take urgent steps to find where Margetic was and who had arrested him and why.

Mehun rejected the allegation that Margetic had been under constant police surveillance, and said that no one had reported that Margetic was missing.
