ZAGREB, Dec 19 (Hina) - The Zagreb police reported at about 14:00 hrs Sunday that journalist Domagoj Margetic had been found, after his disappearance was reported by his family on Saturday evening.

The police came in touch with Margetic after they took all necessary measures to find his whereabouts, and he is currently being interviewed by police officers, said, Milan Perkovic, a police officer on duty in the Zagreb Police Department.

"As long as the interview is going on, I cannot say anything more," Perkovic said, after he was asked about how the police had found Margetic.

A man who introduced himself as Domagoj Margetic called Hina at about 13:00 hrs today and said he was going to a police station in Zagreb. He said he had been "held in detention" by unknown men since Friday and was released at about 05:00 hrs Sunday.

The Zagreb Police Department said on Sunday morning that the family of Domagoj Margetic, editor-in-chief of the political weekly "Novo hrvatsko slovo", had reported him missing. The family contacted a police station on Saturday evening, saying he had last been seen on December 17.

The police said then they had launched an investigation, but that at the moment they had no useful information in connection with the case.

Interior Ministry spokesman Zlatko Mehun on Saturday denied a report by "Novo hrvatsko slovo", which alleged that its editor had been arrested and taken to an unknown location and that he had been under constant police surveillance over the past few days.

The police summoned Margetic for an interview about three weeks ago following an order by the Office of the Public Prosecutor, which in turn was prompted by a request from the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague at the beginning of December that the weekly stop publishing statements and testimonies of protected witnesses, Mehun said. The spokesman said that Margetic had not responded to the summons, but that the police had taken no action against him since no such order came from the Public Prosecutor.
