"Croatia is hostage to the Hague tribunal, and in case I become president, General Gotovina would walk around freely in Croatia," Miksic said at a press conference during a visit to the southern Bosnian city of Mostar.
Mikscic described as unjust Friday's verdict by the Hague tribunal, which sentenced former Bosnian Croat political leader Dario Kordic to 25 years in jail for war crimes committed against Bosnian Muslims in Central Bosnia from 1992 to 1994.
Miksic criticised the incumbent Croatian President Stjepan Mesic for "degrading the institution of the President of the Republic of Croatia". He added that the results of Mesic's work could be seen in the failure of two projects he backed -- Sisak Ironworks and the Druzba Adria oil pipeline project.
Miksic called for changing the Dayton peace agreement, because "it leads to the Croats being impoverished and deprived of their rights". He added that Croatia had the right to insist on changing the Dayton agreement because it was one of the signatories.
